Many students find that there is life after Harold Washington College through the HWC Transfer Center.

Many students can find their next dream school with help from the HWC Transfer Center.

The HWC Transfer Center is helping students fulfill big dreams to transfer to a four-year college or university.

“My whole goal in life is to help students to transfer from their original dream school, Harold Washington College, to their new dream school,” said Ellen Goldberg, director of the HWC Transfer Center.

The HWC Transfer Center’s mission is to “create opportunities for our students, faculty staff to access a network of colleges, universities and educational supports increase knowledge in and progress towards advanced education,” according to webpage.

Some of the services provided by the transfer center are one-on-one advising, scholarship research assistance, campus tours, scheduling campus tours with students’ choice of campus, transfer events and fairs, college application and assistance, assistance with application fee waiver, transfer resources and transfer events and fairs. https://www.ccc.edu/site/Pages/Transfer-Centers.aspx.

One such event was a two-day City Colleges of Chicago Virtual Transfer event Feb. 9 and 10 from 2 to 5 p.m. where students could virtually meet representatives from more than 20 local and out-of-state colleges and universities, including Columbia College in Chicago, Columbia University in New York, Fisk University a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), in Nashville, Roosevelt University in Chicago, the University of Chicago, Marquette University in Milwaukee, and HBCU Alabama State University in Montgomery.

A new virtual event is the City Colleges 2022 Transfer Leadership Class, a district-wide, six-week event of free workshops for all students who want to transfer to schools and apply for funding. The sessions take place on Tuesdays from 3 to 4:30 p.m., starting on Feb. 8 until March 15. Registration is required.

Students can set up one-on-one sessions with an adviser at the Transfer Center after participating or viewing the Transfer 101 Workshop, according to Goldberg. If students would like to review the Transfer 101 Workshop as a webinar or more information on coming events, they can email Ellen Goldberg at egoldberg1@ccc.edu.
